How to Treat a Stuffy Nose in Babies

How to Treat a Stuffy Nose in Babies

When your baby has a stuffy nose, it can be hard for them to breathe properly, and it can even inhibit their eating habits. When you notice your child is starting to show signs of a stuffy nose, it’s time to take action. Check out this guide on how to treat a stuffy nose in babies to help your little one find relief from congestion.

Raise the humidity

Invest in a small humidifier for the room your baby sleeps in. This can add humidity to the air and loosen up the snot stuck inside their little nostrils. Humidity can help to clear congestion and turn stuffy noses into normal noses again by opening up the airways. It can also be helpful to put a humidifier in the room where your baby eats, as drinking milk is harder for babies when they are congested and have stuffed up noses.

Use nose drops

Putting some saline drops in your baby’s nose can loosen up the mucus stuck in there. Stuffy noses can be hard to find relief from for babies as they can’t yet take decongestant medications, but this method can provide temporary relief for your child. Just one or two drops per nostril can loosen up the gunk in their noses and even rinse some of it out. Babies are not yet able to blow their noses, so this is a good substitute and provides a similar level of relief.

Use an Oogiebear

A baby booger picker may be just what your little bundle of joy needs to start feeling joyful again. When your baby is experiencing a stuffy nose, using an Oogiebear can safely clean their nose of both dried and mucus-y boogers. Simply insert the safe tip into your child’s nose and gently clear out all the gunk inside to provide your child with instant relief from boogers. This is another great way to open up their little noses to let air through and encourage a healthy appetite again.

There are many options for how to treat a stuffy nose in babies. If you have trouble managing the stuffy nose or congestion or are concerned about lingering issues, contact your child’s pediatrician to discuss options and treatments.
